Welcome to the 2010 version of this web site! I'm Ed Rodgers, a retired Navy Master Chief Boatswain's Mate (EOD/MTS). August 1st, 2003 gave me 30 years and 5 days of honorable service. I worked as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician/Diver for the last 22 of those years. Three years before I retired I came down with a still undiagnosed metabolic muscle disease. More about that on the About Me page.

Shooting is something I can still enjoy despite my limited physical ability. Needless to say, I make the most of each trip. In the old days before having kids I had a HK-91, a Mini-14, a Colt Python .357 magnum, a Llama .44 magnum, and 2 Beretta .25s. I sold all of them because I didn't feel comfortable having guns around small children. The kids are grown now and I was getting desperate for some type of activity I could look forward to. I had planned on learning to snow ski when I retired but I don't see that happening any time soon. It doesn't take much to lift and shoot a gun, even with my muscle disease. Most of my shooting is done sitting and about half the time I use a rest.

I carry a gun for self defense. The decision I made to legally carry a concealed weapon was based on the fact that the disabled are the single biggest target of opportunity for criminals. That and considering I couldn't put up much of a fight these days. Even where I live now, just two weeks ago (as I wrote this in December of 2006), a man walking home with a cane was jumped by two hoods. They stole his leather jacket and wallet and left him on the ground in sub-freezing weather. While that kind of event doesn't happen with any regularity around here, it doesn't matter much if you're the victim. Just ask yourself one question - If it's ok for a policeman to shoot someone committing a violent crime against you, then why wouldn't it be ok if you did it if there was no policeman around? Let's face it. Most of our police forces are under paid and over worked and they can't be everywhere at once. I wouldn't want their job.

I'm sure some will look at this web site and think I must be some horrible alarmist stashing away guns and ammo for some doomsday scenario. Not true. So why then do I have such a collection of arms? I like guns. I love their history. I love the part they played in the evolution of EVERY nation, not just America. Quite simply I find guns very interesting from a design prospective. I'm not a hunter. That isn't an option with my current medical condition. I do love to target shoot when I can. I do believe that we as Americans have a Constitutional right to protect ourself and our family from criminals. I find the science of firearms and marksmanship very interesting and I love the challenge of trying to improve my accuracy with different types of firearms. Plain and simple. Some like stamps. Some collect old cars. I like guns. It was either this or become a cat hoarder LOL!! So if anyone wants to classify me as a "gun nut", I guess that's ok.

What better hobby for a nacho-eating retired bomb disposal guy than shooting and gun collecting? I wouldn't really call myself a "collector" though. With Bat Masterson's original Colt .45 going for $82,000 last time I checked I would have to say it's a bit out of my league. He is my wife's great great uncle (for real) so I figure whoever has it should just send it to me for free. That's not likely to happen so I just use my budget wisely and hope that one day some of my iron will fall into the collector category. In any case, stay safe and keep your powder dry.
