MY RIFLES

My Bushmaster AR-15 5.56 NATO/.223 Remington

OK so I finally caved and joined the "Black Rifle" club. With stock finally coming back into the market and the price of this model at an amazing $830, I couldn't resist.

Mine was a special build for Davidson's Gallery of Guns - Bushmaster Model E2S A1 M4 Type Carbine. In OEM configuration it weighs in at 6.7 pounds. Features include a 16" M4 profile chrome lined barrel with flash suppressor; a six position telescoping stock; a black thermoplastic case and 1" sling. The package included one 30 round magazine.

Aftermarket support is HUGE and custom parts abound everywhere. I swapped out the A1 carry handle upper for a flat top Yankee Hill A3 upper. I changed out the stock handguard with a Magpul MOE handguard. Mounted topside is a flip-up rear sight by GG&G and a holographic sight by EO Tech (512 model). The pistol grip is now a Magpul MOE rubber coated grip. I changed the stock trigger guard out for a Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard. It's wearing a Magpul CTR buttstock on the rear. Let's face it. Magpul makes great stuff. The flash hider is a custom model from DPMS. I swapped the standard buttstock tube lock collar with a Blackhawk model that has a single point sling attachment. I changed out (and I use the term loosely) the front sight post with a low profile rail gas block from DPMS. I topped it off with a flip-up front sight by Yankee Hill. The flip up sights do co-witness perfectly in the up position. I mounted an M6 tac light/laser on the handguard using a standard rail attachment. On the inside I've only swapped out the gas rings with a DPMS bolt 1 piece McFarland gas ring. So overall it looks nothing like it did new; but I love it even more.

These things are seriously addicting and a lot of fun to shoot. It really was a lot of fun learning about the AR-15 and doing all the work myself. Shoots like a champ!

My Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22, .22 Long Rifle

Submitted for your approval - another entry into the "black gun" category. There are three reasons to own this rifle; (1) it's fun to shoot with zero recoil and (2) it looks cool and (3) ammo is really really cheap. Did I mention ammo is cheap? Unlike some other .22's that are simply an older .22 receiver and barrel with new furniture; this one was built from the ground up to be what it is. The mag holds 25 rounds and the whole thing weighs less than 6 pounds. The front and rear sights are removable. The full length quad rail allows for tool attachment in whatever configuration you desire.

Current mods include MagPul flip-up sights and MOE buttstock; MagPul full profile rail covers; a MagPul forend grip and a Falcon Industries pistol grip. It's wearing a Vortex red/green dot sight. I have a Phase Illumination tac light mounted on the bottom rail now. I added an A2 flash hider using an adapter from MP15-22.com.

This firearm was introduced to the general public in Aug 09 so parts in general have yet to explode onto the secondary market. What's nice is that it will accept any mil-spec buttstock, any AR pistol grip and the quad picatinny rail will accept most AR gadgets (lights, lasers, sights, forend grips etc). This is officially my first ever Smith & Wesson.
